Guus Hiddink has emerged as a potential candidate to become Chelsea caretaker manager should Roman Abramovich decide to sack Jose Mourinho.
The Dutchman, 69, took charge of the Blues for a highly successful brief spell in 2009; taking over from Luiz Felipe Scolari, Hiddink lost just one of his 22 matches and won the FA Cup.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich on Wednesday held an emergency board meeting with his senior advisors to discuss the future of Mourinho.
No announcement was made by the club and it remains unclear whether Mourinho will be in charge of the club for Saturday's home game with Sunderland, although that seems likely.
Chelsea publicly backed the Portuguese in October, but since then results have not improved with Chelsea 16th in the Premier League with just 15 points from 16 matches - they sit just a point above the relegation zone.
Hiddink considered the top candidate for an interim position, according to the Daily Telegraph , with Juande Ramos, Fabio Capello, Brendan Rodgers and Avram Grant also being considered.
Antonio Conte, who is in charge of Italy until after Euro 2016, and Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, are believed to be the two favourites to take over the job permanently.
Mourinho retains the support of the Chelsea fanbase but Hiddink would be the most popular choice from that list of potential candidates.

Brendan Rodgers His availability makes Rodgers a viable option, although whether the former Liverpool manager matches the calibre of coach that Chelsea would want to employ is debatable. But the Northern Irishman can boast of nearly taking Liverpool to the title and few others in the game would be so desperate to prove themselves. Also has ties with the club having worked under Mourinho during the Special One's first spell at Chelsea.

Having led Madrid's second club out of the shadow of Real to the title in 2013/14, the Argentinian proved his combative intense style could yield results. Chelsea would have to pay around £15m to Atletico in compensation to buy him out of his contract.

The Dutch national team failed to qualify for Euro 2016 after a disastrous campaign with Hiddink in charge and he was fired in June.
