The 23-year-old required surgery on ligaments in his right knee that were damaged during a training session last month.
Following his absence from first-team action, second-choice 'keeper Asmir Begovic has deputised and largely impressed, despite Chelsea's woeful defensive record.
"In terms of my knee, it is good. I am doing my rehabilitation and it is progressing fine," Courtois said following Belgium's win over Israel on Tuesday night.
"I will be (now) starting the bulk of the work with my physio to come back as soon as possible.
"Of course I still have to be careful not to go too quickly, but all being well, I should be back in December."
Only the embattled Sunderland, who have already made a managerial change, have conceded more Premier League goals than the defending champions so far this season.
Courtois has not featured for Chelsea since their 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.
Jose Mourinho's back line suffered a further blow with the news that Branislav Ivanovic will be sidelined for three weeks.
The right-back, who has suffered a poor spell of form during the early stages of this campaign, suffered a hamstring injury in Serbia's 2-0 win over Albania.
Chelsea return to league action at the weekend by welcoming Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge.
