Mauricio Pochettino insisted that his team believed that they could win at Stamford Bridge even after their 3-0 defeat extended their winless streak here to 25 years. Tottenham started well and had chances to take the lead, and Pochettino said afterwards that this showed that his players approached the game with the right mentality.

“The history here was difficult, but tonight we came here with the idea to get the three points, to get the victory,” Pochettino said. “We showed what our intentions were at the beginning of the game, but that's you need some luck, too, to win in a rival stadium against a team like Chelsea.”

Pochettino is trying to instil a new mentality at White Hart Lane and while the result was a familiar one, Pochettino was impressed with how his players approached the game.

“If you watch again the game, I think the answer is easy: we believed,” he said. “We showed we believed we could get a positive result, but this is football. It's difficult to manage if you're lucky or not. The first chance they created, they scored. The second chance, the second goal.”
