Police were called after a glass was thrown at Sunderland striker Darren Bent's car while it was parked in Newcastle.
The incident, which the England striker, 26, disclosed on Twitter, happened yesterday afternoon. No one was hurt and Bent's Land Rover was not damaged. A spokesman for Northumbria Police said that inquiries into the incident were now under way.
