The Gunners topped the table for a few hours with a 4-1 victory away to Sunderland, until Manchester City regained first place after beating West Brom 4-0.
Giroud made his Premier League return in that game and came off the bench to secure the points with two goals in five minutes – the first of which was with his first touch.
Arsenal are currently in second in the league, level on points with City and Liverpool after a run of seven wins in eight games, but Giroud is not thinking about the end of the season yet.
He told arsenal.com: "We've only played a quarter of the league. It's still the beginning of the league and I'm not the man who will speak too much because we are first.
"We enjoy this position, obviously we want to finish first and win the league, but we know there is a long time to go. We're in a good moment and we need to keep it up and be consistent."
Giroud entered the fray shortly after Sunderland had equalised to make it 1-1 but only took two minutes to restore the Gunners’ lead.
The Frenchman, along with midfielder Aaron Ramsey, is making is comeback from injury and is aware he needs to maintain this goalscoring form if he is to reclaim his starting place.
"If I could do that in every single game, I would be the most happy man. I've been lucky today - I had great assists from my team-mates, so I always try to finish the job well," he added.
"It's a big time for me because I'm coming back from a tough injury and I'm very happy to get back on the pitch. It's nice for myself and the team. To score is always important for a striker."
