Arsenal news: Jack Wilshere needs to leave as he doesn't have a future with Gunners, says Jamie Redknapp

Wilshere is currently on loan with Bournemouth, but Redknapp believes he must leave Arsenal permanently to make the most of his career

Jack Wilshere’s Arsenal career is over, according to former England international Jamie Redknapp.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that Wilshere needs to start looking beyond Arsenal because he no longer has a future at his childhood club, despite being earmarked as England’s brightest prospect as he rose through the ranks at the Emirates.

The 24-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at Bournemouth where he completed his first 90 minute appearance in more than two years in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Tottenham. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stressed that Wilshere remains in his plans, but that a loan move this season was the best option for him in an effort to guarantee him match time after three years of persistent and long-term injuries.

However, former Spurs midfielder Redknapp claimed that Wilshere needs to move away from Arsenal in order to try and re-establish himself at another club because he will not succeed with the Gunners.

"I don't see a future at Arsenal any more, I think now he will realise he has got to get away from Arsenal," Redknapp said on Sky sports ahead of the 0-0 draw at the Vitality Stadium.

"It's too comfortable for him there. He is not going to get into the team at Arsenal regularly.”

Redknapp did add though that Wilshere needs to look beyond Bournemouth for his next club, because he does not feel that the Cherries are big enough for the midfielder.

"If he makes that move he can show what he is all about,” Redknapp added. “No disrespect, I think he's a step above Bournemouth, but I think it's a great thing for him to do. He's really putting himself out there."

Wilshere’s first 90-minute performance since September 2014 came against Arsenal’s north London rivals, and Redknapp was impressed with how he coped against Spurs’s powerful midfield pairing of Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele.

"It's massive for him," said Redknapp. "He has proved to himself he can play 90 minutes and I think it is important.

"He did really well today and it was difficult for him against Dembele and Wanyama, [they are] big units. It was always difficult but some of his touches were exquisite and as the game wore on, the last five minutes he came back into it again.

"When he plays for England, I just don't see him as a defensive midfielder because you lose so much of what he does well.

"In that role he plays now [for Bournemouth] he can see the game and slow it down, and he's a lovely link for the team."
