Arsenal official offers positive update on Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil contract talks

Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s contract negotiations with Arsenal are “looking pretty good”, insists club secretary David Miles.

The pair are two of a number of senior players who are in the process of discussing extending their current deal, with Arsene Wenger confirming the likes of Per Mertesacker, Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere are in talks.

Sanchez and Ozil both have 18 months left on their contracts and while Wenger insisted he would not sell either player, he could not offer any assurances that they would definitely prolong their stay at the Emirates.

And Miles said the chances of senior players was promising while also addressing whether the Gunners would be bringing in any new faces in January ahead of a title push for the second half of the season.

"Obviously that's Arsene's domain, and it's in very safe hands,” Miles told BT Sport after the Gunners were drawn against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

"I know he's already looking for opportunities to strengthen the squad.

"Of course, we know talks are ongoing with certain players and certain contracts. At the moment, things are looking pretty good in that way."

Olivier Giroud, Wojciech Szczesny, Kieran Gibbs and Mathieu Debuchy also have 18 months remaining at the club but all could run down their contracts with only Giroud getting a regular run in the team.

Cazorla is one of those out of contract at the end of this season, but Wenger said the Spaniard would “certainly” extend his stay last week.
