Daniel Nadales, captain of Spanish outfit CD Cuarte, caused a stir this week after a photographer captured the moment he climbed up the post to defend a corner.

The Spaniard was pictured using the peculiar tactic as his side defended a set-play during his side’s 3-1 loss to CD Teruel on Sunday.

With his teammates focusing on more conventional defensive tactics, Nadales clambered up the post to try and help his side defend – a move that has since become an internet sensation.

Despite being caught in the act, according to the Metro, Nadales escaped punishment from the referee after the official failed to see him.

The defender has since been affectionately called ‘Koala’ and admitted after the game he hadn’t planned to climb the goal post and it had been purely spontaneous.
