Mikel Arteta remains perfect this season, as Arsenal defeated West Ham to make it two wins from two, but attention turns to the transfer market where he is eager to strengthen further.

Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar remain priorities, but the Gunners may need to sell or get creative to land their first choice players, who will come at a premium.

There is also plenty of dead wood in the eyes of the Spaniard to cut down on as he streamlines his squad ahead of what promises to be an exciting season for the Gunners.

TORINO COLD ON TORREIRA MOVE

For so long it seemed as though Lucas Torreira was heading to Torino this summer but now that probably isn’t the case as the club no longer sees his signature as a priority.

Davide Vagnati, the director of the Italian side, told Sky Sports that the club has cooled their interest in the Arsenal midfielder.

The two clubs had been in talks over a season-long loan for Torreira with an option to make it permanent next summer, with the Serie A club paying £22m.

With that deal now looking unlikely, Atletico Madrid are emerging as potential suitors for the 24-year-old.

GUENDOUZI TRANSFER REQUEST

Matteo Guendouzi has handed in a transfer request according to L’Equipe in France.

The French midfielder has been out of favour under Mikel Arteta and with no solution in sight, the youngster wants out at the Emirates.

There has been interest from Spain, Italy and France, but so far Arsenal have failed to generate interest from Atletico Madrid as part of a deal to sign Partey.

ARTETA ‘PUNCHING ABOVE HIS WEIGHT’ SAYS NEVILLE

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville says Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is ‘punching above his weight’.

Arteta took over from Unai Emery in November 2019 and won the FA Cup last season.

Speaking on his podcast, Neville was full of praise for the current Gunners’ boss:

I think Mikel Arteta is punching above his weight. He is going above and beyond the players he has.

The shape and the organisation, things we have criticised Arsenal for in the past, is good.

They are not finishing in the top four like Arsene Wenger used to get criticised for but they look like a team which is more cohesive.

It has continued from the end of last season and he is doing a great job.

I just think Mikel Arteta would love that £150 million that Frank Lampard has got this summer.

ARSENAL MUST PAY PARTEY RELEASE CLAUSE

If Arsenal want to complete the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey, they must activate his release clause, according to a report.

Partey has emerged as Mikel Arteta’s No. 1 transfer target this summer, however Atletico are refusing to enter into negotiations for the player.

Goal.com’s Charlie Watt says that Arsenal have to pay €50m to activate his buyout clause if they are to sign the Ghanian.

It’s rumoured that the La Liga side are interested in signing Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira, but Partey won’t be discussed in any meetings between the two teams for Torreira.

GUNNERS YET TO DISCUSS LACAZETTE EXTENSION

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has conceded the club are yet to open discussions with Alexander Lacazette over a contract extension.

Lacazette’s deal at the north London club expires in June 2022, but Arteta has admitted that talks haven’t begun over a new deal.

"At the moment, we haven't started any negotiations," Arteta said. "We have a lot of things still to do in this market and at the moment we are focusing on those things."

"He's a player I'm really happy with. I think we've shown him a lot of faith since I arrived here."

"But we cannot start any speculation. We know that any player who is under two years of their contract is always going to be talked about."

The French forward netted 10 times in 30 Premier League games last season for Arsenal.

GUENDOUZI HANDS IN TRANSFER REQUEST

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has handed in a transfer request, according to a report from France.

Guendouzi has fallen down the pecking order at The Gunners, and French outlet L’ Equipe states that the 21-year-old has handed in a transfer request to leave the club.

Arsenal may accept his request as the club need to balance the books in order to sign primary transfer target Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.

It’s reported that a number of sides in France, Spain and Italy are interested in signing Guendouzi.

TORREIRA INTEREST WILL FORCE ATLETICO TO DISCUSS PARTEY

Atletico Madrid’s interest in Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira will open the door for discussions over The Gunners’ primary transfer target, Thomas Partey.

The Mirror cites Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo in stating that Torreira wants to join Diego Simeone’s side, and is reportedly refusing all offers.

The Uruguyan had been linked with a move back to Italy with Serie A side Torino, however talks have appeared to have stalled in recent days.

The Mirror states that should talks begin over a move Torreira, Arsenal will use the opportunity to discuss Partey.

Atletico don’t want to sell the Ghanian, and have reportedly told Arsenal to pay his €50m release clause if they want to sign the player.

ATLETICO NEED TO SELL BEFORE GOING FOR TORREIRA

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid need to sell Hector Herrera before making a move for Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira, according to a report in Spain.

Arsenal are looking to shift the Uruguayan midfielder on, and are hoping to insert him into negotiations for Thomas Partey, who is high on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist.

However according to Spanish outlet Libertard Digital, Atletico will only move for Torriera once they themselves sell Mexican midfielder Herrera.
