The Liverpool footballer, World Cup winner and Wimbledon quarter-finalist made the list of 10

Liverpool footballer Joe Gomez, World Cup winner Megan Rapinoe and Wimbledon quarter-finalist Johanna Konta have all been included on a list of the most unfairly treated public figures of 2019.

The list of ten, which was compiled by online casino PlayOJO, also includes the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Greta Thunberg and Queen Elizabeth, and was topped by Meghan Markle.

Gomez was included after being scratched by England team-mate and Manchester City rival Raheem Sterling, only to then be booed by his own supporters at Wembley a few days later.

Rapinoe, who won the World Cup with the United States and also took home the Women’s Ballon d’Or last month, was named on the list for the vitriolic criticism she has received for leading the campaign for gender equality and LGBT+ rights.

There was also a place for British number one Konta, who was angered by “harsh” and “patronising” questions after her Wimbledon quarter-final defeat by Barbora Strycova.

“I don’t think you need to pick on me in a harsh way,” she fired back after being reminded by one reporter that she had made 34 unforced errors in her 7-6 (5), 6-1 loss on Centre Court.

This is not the first time sports people from around the world have been featured in the annual list of unfairly treated people.

2018’s effort featured Caster Semenya, Geraint Thomas, Naomi Osaka and Sterling.
