From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ghana are still waiting for official confirmation of Togo's withdrawal from the African Nations Cup with the sides scheduled to meet in Cabinda tonight.

The Black Stars' Group B opponents flew back to Lome on Sunday night after opting to pull out of the tournament following Friday's terrorist attack on the team bus which left three people dead.

However, Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi says neither the tournament organisers in Angola nor the Confederation of African Football have given any indication to them of how the group will proceed without Togo.

Nyantakyi told www.ghanafa.org: "The Ghana Football Association has not been notified that our intended opponents for the first group match, Togo will not honour the game.

"The match co-ordinator for our group came to see us on Sunday evening but said nothing about the situation. CAF has not informed us that Group B will be a three-team group yet.

"But when it comes to that, we would have to be ready. Until CAF confirms that to us, we can't look at the next game."

Security is expected to be tight in the northern region after the deadly machine gun attack which left three people dead, with Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso due to play the opening match in the main city of Cabinda this afternoon.
