From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Christian Dailly, Steven Pressley, Andy Webster, Barry Ferguson, Kevin Harper and Paul Devlin all remained at the team hotel for treatment while the rest of Berti Vogts' squad were put through their paces at Dumbarton.
Devlin was already doubtful with a hamstring strain and failed to make Watford's 16-man squad at the weekend, but he made the trip to Scotland in the hope that he could prove his fitness. So far, the Leicester City striker Paul Dickov is the only player ruled out and those who did not train today could still take part in the game.
Norwich City's Phil Mulryne and Paul McVeigh have pulled out of Northern Ireland's squad to play Greece in Athens on Saturday. The midfielder Mulryne and the striker McVeigh were both injured during the win over Reading at the weekend.
Both came on as substitutes during the 1-0 home defeat to Armenia in their previous qualifier last month. The defender Grant McCann is also out of the final qualifier after suffering an ankle injury playing for Cheltenham. Shaun Holmes of Wrexham and Sunderland's Jeff Whitley have been called up as replacements.
The Irish, who have not scored in 1,152 minutes' play and have taken three points from seven matches, have long been out of the running at the bottom of Group Six.
The Greece coach, Otto Rehhagel, has retained several players who are out of favour at club level this season. The defender Nikos Dabizas keeps his place despite having only played for Newcastle United's reserves and is likely to partner Traianos Dellas, who is yet to play for his club Roma, in central defence.
The Serbia and Montenegro coach, Ilija Petkovic, has included the uncapped Red Star Belgrade defenders Dragan Sarac and Milan Dudic in his squad to play Wales in Cardiff on Saturday. The pair earned call-ups after impressive displays in the domestic league and the Uefa Cup in the past few weeks.
The Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been left out of the Netherlands' 18-man squad for the qualifier with Moldova on Saturday. The coach, Dick Advocaat, hasoverlooked Hasselbaink, who has been in excellent form for his club this season.
As expected, there is also no place for the Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was punished for kicking a water-bottle when he was substituted in Prague, while the midfielders Mark van Bommel and Edgar Davids miss out through suspension.
