Scott McTominay, the Manchester United midfielder, has been called up by Scotland for the upcoming international friendlies.

The 21-year-old, born in Lancaster to a Glaswegian father, was eligible to represent England and Scotland at international level having never played for either nation’s youth sides.

McTominay met with both England manager Gareth Southgate and his Scottish counterpart Alex McLeish for talks regarding his allegiance, with the youngster ultimately deciding to declare for Scotland earlier this month.

McTominay had previously delayed making a decision on his international future in favour of focusing on his development at United.

The midfielder’s progress in the time since has seen him become a fully-fledged member of Jose Mourinho’s first team squad at Old Trafford.

McTominay has featured in each of United’s last eight fixtures, making 19 senior appearances this season in total, and at times playing ahead of club record signing Paul Pogba.

The youngster is now in line to make his international debut against Costa Rica at Hampden Park on 23 March. Scotland then travel to Budapest four days later to face Hungary.

Barnsley striker Oli McBurnie, Wolves left-back Barry Douglas, Hearts goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin, Hibernian midfielder Dylan McGeouch and Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna are all also included in the Scotland squad.

McLeish has also selected three more uncapped players, as well as McTominay - Millwall goalkeeper Jordan Archer, Rangers winger Jamie Murphy and Fulham midfielder Kevin McDonald.
