Stewart Downing makes his first England appearance since May 2012 tonight when he starts for Roy Hodgson against Scotland at Celtic Park.

The West Ham midfielder last played for his country in May 2012, when he started in the 1-0 friendly win over Norway in Oslo. Coincidentally, that was also Hodgson's first match in charge of England.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Fraser Forster receives his third cap.

Forster spent four seasons at Celtic (the first two while on loan from Newcastle United), making 197 appearances for the Bhoys before his £10million transfer to Southampton last summer.

Out of 112 games played between the two sides, there have been 24 draws, 46 English wins and 41 Scottish victories. Both teams also have won their last matches, Scotland with a 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland and England triumphing 3-1 over Slovenia.

Scotland: Marshall; Whittaker, R.Martin, Hanley, Robertson; Maloney, Mulgrew, Brown, Anya; Naismith, C.Martin

England Forster, Clyne, Cahill, Smalling, Shaw; Wilshere, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Downing; Rooney, Welbeck.
