Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has rescheduled his wedding in order to be available for England’s Euro 2016 campaign.

Vardy, who was handed his international debut by England manager Roy Hodgson in May, is one of three forwards in the current squad for forthcoming friendlies against Spain and France.

While speaking with the Daily Mail, the 28-year-old revealed he is so keen to retain his place for next summer’s tournament that he has changed his nuptials schedule entirely.

"I was due to get married bang on the start of the Euros," Vardy said.

"The missus was on to me to move it. I thought it was fine. Then we moved it just to be on the safe side after I had my first call-up.

"It was on a weekend, it's now a midweek, which is not ideal for guests, but is just one of those things. May 25 is the new date, the week after the season finishes."

Vardy, who watched England’s last European Championships campaign while on holiday in Zante, has been in sensational form this season and currently sits top of the Premier League’s scoring charts with 12 goals, five more than the next-highest scorer.

The former Stocksbridge Park Steels player has also notched in each of his last nine league games as part of Leicester side which has risen to third-place in the table.

If Vardy scores in his club’s next game away to Newcastle United on 21 November, he will equal a ten-game Premier League record set by former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Blackpool’s Stan Mortensen holds the all-time record for scoring in consecutive league games, finding the net in an 11-game streak during the 1950/51 First Division season.
