Harry Maguire pleads not guilty in Greek court after Mykonos arrest

Harry Maguire has been included in Gareth Southgate’s first England squad of 2020 amid a trial in a Greek court over charges following an alleged altercation with police.

The Manchester United defender will be part of the group for next month’s Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark.

Southgate said: "Harry regrets the fact he has brought that sought of focus and attention on the team and he apologised for that. But he has his own side of the story that will come out."

Other notable inclusions are Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips.

Southampton forward Danny Ings, the highest scoring English player last season, and goalkeeper Dean Henderson, back at Manchester United after his loan to Sheffield United, are both handed received call-ups.

Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish misses out though, as does Burnley’s James Tarkowski.

Maguire, 27, will be involved however, after pleading not guilty to charges and his release from police custody following his arrest in Mykonos and two nights spent in a cell.

Maguire was on holiday with his family after United handed the squad two weeks off with the next competitive fixture slated for 19 September in the 2020/21 Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.
