Your support makes all the difference.Gareth Bale will take part in training for Wales this afternoon ahead of their clash with the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, although whether he has fully recovered from the foot injury that has kept him out of the majority of Tottenham’s pre-season remains unclear.
The winger’s future remains up in the air as Real Madrid continue to pursue the 24-year-old, although the deal for Bale has stalled in the last week. Madrid will also be concerned with reports this morning that Manchester United have returned for Bale as David Moyes continues his search for his first major signing since he joined the club.
Bale has missed nearly a month with the foot injury, and he is yet to break his silence over his future, with sources close to the Welshman suggesting he is hopeful of a move to Spain but will remain loyal to Spurs after they stuck by him during a difficult start to life at White Hart Lane.
Spurs’ boss Andre Villas-Boas has said Bale is unlikely to be fit for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Sunday, but the winger is in Wales manager Chris Coleman’s plans for the international friendly at the Cardiff City Stadium.
A Football Association of Wales spokesman confirmed that Bale reported to the team hotel ahead of this afternoon’s training session in Newport, but Bale is understood to have concerns over his fitness and the impact that any injury could have on a big money move this summer.
Coleman may wish to play Bale at least for some of Wednesday’s match, as he has further injury concerns over Aaron Ramsey and James Collins, who have both withdrawn from the squad with ankle and knee injuries respectively.
Coleman had spoken last week that he felt the best was yet to come for Bale, regardless of if he remained with Tottenham or moved to Real Madrid, which appeared to falter slightly after Real’s president Florentino Perez questioned whether the PFA Player of the Year was really worth £86m.
The Wales boss and his coaching team will assess his condition after today’s training session, and speak with him in the hope that he will play some part in the friendly.
