From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Andy Carroll has headed straight for Dubai with the season over, and it is just one of many holidays he could be having this summer after he was only named in Roy Hodgson's list of reserves for the World Cup.

The 25-year-old has not been included in Hodgson's 23-man squad for the finals, so has taken his end of season break.

It looks like he will only feature at the World Cup this summer if Rickie Lambert picks up an injury.

Carroll, who has scored two goals for the Hammers this season, and has nine international caps to his name, posted a picture on his Instagram account of him with his girlfriend, star of ITV 2's The Only Way is Essex, Billi Mucklow with the caption: 'Dubai bound'.

In addition to Carroll, one other player that will not be on the plane to Brazil is Ashley Cole. The left-back retired from international football after being omitted by Hodgson.
