From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Wayne Rooney leads out the England team as captain for the first time tonight and will be accompanied by a young and inexperienced side.

Daniel Sturridge starts alongside him in attack, with the Arsenal duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere behind him in midfield along with Liverpool pair Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson.

Joe Hart starts in goal with Gary Cahill and Phil Jones the centre-backs in front of him. Leighton Baines is at left-back while 20-year-old John Stones makes his first start for the Three Lions at right-back.

Injury concern Danny Welbeck, who this week joined Arsenal, is fit enough to be named on the bench.

Whilst Rooney has 95 caps to his name, between the other nine outfield players there are 136. Much of the onus will therefore be on the captain to lead this side through their first game since their disastrous World Cup.

Roy Hodgson will also be looking for the players to impress with a Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland on Monday night.
