Anger over Dhorasoo film
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The France coach Raymond Domenech is angry over plans by the midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo to release an unauthorised film that looks behind the scenes during France's World Cup finals campaign.
Dhorasoo, who made only a brief substitute's appearance during the tournament, spent much of his time filming his team-mates with a hand-held camera, and now plans to release a film called Substitute - but Domenech has urged him not to take such action.
"I have not given my agreement to appear in this film, and I will not give it," Domenech said on Tuesday at France's training camp. "This is not a sporting matter, but a question of marketing."
The team captain Patrick Vieira, who led Les Bleus in a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovena last night in Sarajevo, said Dhorasoo "should be careful".
"I was not aware of this project," he said. "I'm surprised because it was a private film." Vieira said the film could intrude on the secrecy of the dressing-room. "He should be careful as there are some things you can't show. I think everyone shares that idea."
* The Bayern Munich centre-back Valerien Ismael will be out for at least six months after breaking a shin bone in training, the German champions said yesterday. Ismael suffered the injury to his left leg during a five-a-side match.
