Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Championship

* Southampton

Manager Nigel Pearson has revealed the club have disciplined Bradley Wright-Philips and Nathan Dyer after the pair were pictured at a Hampshire nightclub. "The matter has already been strongly dealt with internally," Pearson said. Asked if the pair had been fined or banned, Pearson replied "both." "If you are aware of what the regulations state, this is the most severe punishment we could give." Allegations of theft have also been made, and the club will await details of any police inquiry before taking any action.

*Watford

Manager Adrian Boothroyd believes the Hornet's promotion experiences of 2006 can benefit his squad as they attempt to return to the Premier League. "We are becoming difficult to beat," he said ahead of the trip to Bristol City tonight. "When you come to the last 10 games that's what you want, because we've got players who score goals."

*Ipswich Town

Dean Bowditch and Gary Roberts have returned to Portman Road to receive treatment on groin and Achilles injuries respectively. "Dean is being assessed by our medical people," the Tractors Boys manager Jim Magilton said. "We will have a look at him and see how things go. Gary has had a scan – there is some swelling there and again it will be a case of seeing how things go."

*Scunthorpe United

The Iron have no new injury problems for the visit of Plymouth tonight. Defender Cliff Byrne [foot] remains out, while Matt Sparrow is suspended.

League One

*Nottingham Forest

Manager Colin Calderwood remains upbeat over Forest's promotion chances ahead of the trip to Southend. "We can still get automatic promotion," he said. Arron Davies could be out for up to three weeks after suffering a hamstring strain during the 0-0 draw at Crewe on Saturday.

*Southend United

Steve Tilson admits bringing in a new striker has proved difficult. "I've been trying for days," he said. "It's difficult at the moment, no-one wants to let anyone out, especially up front." Tilson is currently without Alex Revell, Lee Barnard, Matt Harold and Charlie MacDonald through injury.

*Swansea City

Garry Monk may miss the visit of Tranmere tonight with a back problem. Dennis Lawrence could return after a month on the sidelines with a knee ligament injury.

League Two

*Wrexham

Manager Brian Little paid tribute to goalkeeper Gavin Ward after his impressive display helped the Dragons to a 2-0 victory at Chester. "If those had gone in I think there would have only been one winner," he said. "Chester were in the ascendancy at that point."

*Wycombe Wanderers

Paul Lambert has dismissed reports linking him with a return to Motherwell as a replacement for Mark McGhee. "This is pure invention and I have no intention of going anywhere," the manager said ahead of tonight's match with Wrexham.

* Mansfield Town

Assistant manager Paul Holland will take temporary charge of first-team affairs at Field Mill for tonight's visit of Hereford United. The Stags parted company with manager Billy Dearden following the 4-0 home defeat to Rochdale last Saturday.
