Grimsby seek fresh Broomes
Blackburn's forgotten man Marlon Broomes is set to sign for high-flying First Division Grimsby on a long-term loan.
The former England Under-21 centre-half is out of Graeme Souness' plans and could take the chance of regular first-team football with The Mariners.
Lennie Lawrence watched Broomes in action for the reserves in midweek and is speaking to Rovers about the move to bolster his squad.
Broomes could be available for sale and Grimsby may try to persuade him to join if the loan deal works out for both parties.
Sander Westerveld has requested an urgent meeting with the Liverpool manager Gérard Houllier after losing his position as first-choice goalkeeper at Anfield.
The Netherlands international said he was unsure of his future at Liverpool following last week's signing of two goalkeepers, Jerzy Dudek from Feyenoord and Chris Kirkland from Coventry City.
Westerveld was the first choice during Liverpool's treble cup-winning campaign last season, but Houllier confirmed on Tuesday that Dudek, who will start against Aston Villa on Saturday, will be his new No 1.
"I have to remain calm and wait for a conversation with Houllier," Westerveld said. "I want an explanation and I want to know what is going to happen to me."
