Tottenham have asked fans to take a survey so they can canvass opinions on what to do if they receive a home draw in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The match will take place on Tuesday 25 September or Wednesday 26 September, but Tottenham’s new stadium will not be ready in time to host a fixture if they are drawn as the home side.

Their match against Liverpool on 15 September was meant to be the first game at the new ground, but this fixture, and a home game against Cardiff on 6 October, has been moved to Wembley.

Supports, through the Tottenham Hotspur Supports’ Trust, were asked if they would prefer to play as the home team at a neutral ground, or flip the tie and play as the away team.

A venue ‘within London, within the M25, within 100 miles of London and no limits’ are the suggestions available to fans who wish for Tottenham to be the home side.

The EFL will allow Tottenham to flip the tie and play as the away team if they get a home draw, West Ham did this when they were drawn as the home side against Cheltenham Town but reversed the tie due to other events at the London Stadium.

Tottenham will have to pay compensation to the hosts if they flip the tie against a smaller team as gate receipts for EFL Cup matches are evenly split between the two sides.

“In the event that Tottenham Hotspur are drawn at home in Round Three of the Carabao Cup, the Club can apply for special dispensation from the EFL Board to play their fixture away from home as a result of the delays in moving to their new stadium,” the EFL said in a statement.

“If the circumstances dictate a reversal is required, then the EFL Board can also determine a level of compensation to be paid by Tottenham Hotspur to the opposing club.”

The seven Premier League clubs competing in Europe this season will enter the competition at the third round stage, including holders Manchester City.
