Jose Mourinho says Manchester United’s priority is to finish second in the Premier League, despite clinching a place in the FA Cup final after beating Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday.

United came from behind to knock out Spurs after goals from Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera turned the match on its head.

“I think the feeling now is we need two victories and one draw to finish second with 81 points,” said Mourinho. “The season is successful if we do a better Premier League season than Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. To break the 80-point target and to finish second against an untouchable winner is good. I don't think it’s [down to the final] that the team is good or bad.”

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino meanwhile thinks Tottenham need more time to build the mentality needed to win trophies.

“I have no regrets,” he said. “We try to learn always but it is difficult, it's not about learning, its about having the capacity to beat your opponent.

“We are in a process that to arrive at to the semi-final and be competitive in the Champions League and be competitive in the Premier League and fight for the top four is not enough.

“Everyone feels that we are close and still it is nearly to touch. It is the only way to reach the next level, that allows you to compete if not to win.

“Tottenham in the last four years we are building a very good team, trying to create a winning mentality and it is not enough at the moment.

“But Tottenham need to keep going in this direction and to create that winning mentality it is not about a few years.

“Tottenham need more time with me or with another, but the most important thing is to keep going and keep developing that philosophy that is fantastic for this club."
