Manchester United have an opportunity to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2004 this weekend.
The 12-year wait has been a long one for a club that for 21 years could claim to be the most successful team in the history of the competition.
In order to reclaim that title by joining Arsenal on 12 FA Cup triumphs they must first beat Crystal Palace at Wembley on Saturday.
But how does the side that will be bidding to win the trophy on Saturday compare to the team that won it in 2004?
We've gone through the two teams to compare 2004 with 2016 and have selected a preference for each position in the starting XI. Check out which of the current crop makes it in below...
FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016Show all 11 1 /11FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Tim Howard vs David De Gea Tim Howard was one of a succession of goalkeepers that tried and failed to fill the Peter Schmeichel shaped hole between the sticks at Old Trafford until Edwin van der Sar turned up. No question that David De Gea, United's stand-out performer for the last couple of seasons, gets the nod in this battle. INDEPENDENT PICK: David De Gea
2016 Manchester United FC
FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Gary Neville vs Matteo Darmian Matteo Darmian was supposed to solve United's woes at right-back that they've endured since Gary Neville retired way back in 2011. He hasn't which means there is no doubt United legend Neville gets in. INDEPENDENT PICK: Gary Neville
2004 Manchester United
FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Wes Brown vs Daley Blind Wes Brown was never the most lauded of defenders however he was incredibly successful during his time at the club - albeit usually in a role as first-choice back-up. He won seven league titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League - twice. Daley Blind has been one of United's few success stories this season but the midfielder-turned-defender is no match for Brown. INDEPENDENT PICK: Wes Brown
2004 Manchester United
FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 John O'Shea vs Chris Smalling John O'Shea, like Brown, was tremendously successful without ever earning the plaudits. But we've selected Chris Smalling ahead of him here with the current centre-back managing to lead the rebuilding of United's reputation as a defensively sound side. United finished the season with the joint best defensive record in the Premier League and Smalling can take the most credit for that. His recognition as this season's Players' Player of the Year suggests his team-mates agree. INDEPENDENT PICK: Chris Smalling

FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Mikael Silvestre vs Marcos Rojo Silvestre was another wonderfully successful United player, winning a load of trophies during his nine years at the club. Meanwhile Marcos Rojo has few admirers. No question here on who gets the position. INDEPENDENT PICK: Mikael Silvestre
2004 Manchester United
FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Cristiano Ronaldo vs Juan Mata Cristiano Ronaldo went from step-over obsessed lightweight to the best player on the planet during his time at Old Trafford. He began showing signs of that progression in the 2004 FA Cup final in which he tormented Millwall and scored. In contrast Juan Mata arrived at the club with pedigree and has shown just why United were ready to pay Chelsea so much for him. But he's no Ronaldo. INDEPENDENT PICK: Cristiano Ronaldo

FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Darren Fletcher vs Wayne Rooney Darren Fletcher won a lot of trophies at Old Trafford but was never a world beater which is why Rooney - in his new midfield position - wins this battle. Despite the unfamiliar role in midfield Rooney has looked at home and continues to offer a goal threat from deep as well as the ability to find a team-mate further forward. INDEPENDENT PICK: Wayne Rooney

FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Roy Keane vs Michael Carrick Michael Carrick is a fine midfielder but if only for the fear that Roy Keane would strike into the opposition it's the Irishman who gets into this side. Carrick has a wonderful range of passing but Keane could match him on that front while also destroying his opponents, sometimes with nothing more than a look. INDEPENDENT PICK: Roy Keane

FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Ryan Giggs vs Anthony Martial Anthony Martial, despite being just 20-years-old and with the pressure of a £58m price-tag over his head, has enjoyed an impressive first season at Old Trafford. But up against the longest-serving player in the history of the club there can only be one winner on the left wing. INDEPENDENT PICK: Ryan Giggs
2004 Manchester United
FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Paul Scholes vs Ander Herrera Ander Herrera is a useful midfielder and his eye for goal has come in handy on many occasions but Paul Scholes did everything better and did it for years. Easy choice. INDEPENDENT PICK: Paul Scholes

FA Cup final teams - 2004 vs 2016 Ruud van Nistelrooy vs Marcus Rashford Ruud van Nistelrooy might not have been the most glamorous or most rounded striker to ever play for Manchester United, but he certainly knew how to poke the ball in the back of the net - something he did twice in the 2004 FA Cup final. Marcus Rashford looks to have that same taste for goals and a bit more. But it's too early for the young England prospect to oust the Dutchman - eight Manchester United goals to 150 says it all. INDEPENDENT PICK: Ruud van Nistelrooy
