Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

With the biggest teams entering the competition, non-League and lower league clubs and players will get the chance to face some of the best players in the world at some of the nation's biggest and most impressive stadiums.
64 balls will enter the draw for the 32 fixtures - though there are 10 second-round ties still to be decided - that will take place on the weekend of 3 and 4 January.
The third-round is when Premier League and Championship clubs enter the competition and the draw could see the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United face one of up to eight non-League teams, with five of those guaranteed.
Blyth Spartans are the lowest-ranked team guaranteed a place in the competition, playing matches in the seventh-tier of English football, the Northern Premier. Worcester City, who can reach the third round by beating League One Scunthorpe United in a replay, play a level above, in the Conference North.
Former England and Newcastle captain Alan Shearer and local Hunberside grassroots volunteer Paul Adamson will pick the names out of a hat at The Deep aquarium in Hull.
The draw can be seen live on TheFA.com and BBC2 from 7pm.
