Steven Gerrard will miss Liverpool’s FA Cup fifth round trip to Crystal Palace after being ruled out with a hamstring injury, with Raheem Sterling also absent having not recovered from a foot injury.

Gerrard limped out of the 3-2 victory over Tottenham on Tuesday, and with their regular captain absent Jordan Henderson takes on the armband. Meanwhile, Sterling, who did not feature against Spurs, has been left out as he continues his recovery from a foot knock that he picked up in the 0-0 draw against Merseyside rivals Everton last weekend.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers makes two changes from the side that defeat Spurs with Gerrard replaced by Joe Allen and Adam Lallana coming in for Jordan Ibe, who is cup-tied having already featured for Derby this season.

Crystal Palace’s starting line-up shows a debut handed to deadline day signing Pape Souare after he was granted a work permit in midweek. Scott Dann starts for Damien Delaney while Yannick Bolasie returns to the side in place of Jason Puncheon.
