Video: Manuel Neuer forgets he's a goalkeeper (again) and goes on FIFA-esque run outfield

Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has developed a reputation for becoming an out-and-out sweeper keeper due to his frequent excursions out of his area, but his latest escapade is truly astounding.

Arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, Neuer has shown a fearless attitude to rampaging out of his goal and providing his team-mates with an extra defender.

However, Neuer was more akin to playing a game of FIFA rather than competing in the German Cup last night when he charged out of goal during Bayern’s clash with Hamburg.

After picking up a back-pass from defender Dante, Neuer elected against taken the simple, easy way out in clearing the ball to safety. Instead, he dribbled the ball up-field, much like a player would on a games console when all hope is gone and they’re on the cusp of a heavy defeat.

Having skipped past the onrushing attacker, Neuer narrowly avoids being dispossessed nearly 40-yards out of his goal, and manages to find a team-mate with a pass before sprinting back to the comfort of his own goal.

Bayern recorded a comfortable 3-1 victory over Hamburg with goals from Robert Lewandowski, David Alaba and a returning Franck Ribery putting the result beyond doubt, despite a late consolation from Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
