Ryan Giggs says criticism of Gareth Bale comes with the territory at Real Madrid

Toni Kroos has extended his contract at Real Madrid until 2023.

The Germany international has enjoyed incredible success at the Bernabeu since arriving in 2014, winning one La Liga title and three Champions League titles.

Kroos and Madrid have endured a difficult season with the end of an era confirmed after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure last summer resulting in a trophyless campaign and a third-placed finish in La Liga.

But the return of Zinedine Zidane has brought fresh hope, with the Frenchman retaining the 29-year-old ahead of a summer of upheaval.

A statement read: “Real Madrid C. F. and Toni Kroos have come to an agreement on a contract extension which will see the player linked to the club until 30 June 2023.

“Toni Kroos will speak to the media today at 1pm CEST in the press room at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.”

Gareth Bale is expected to depart, with Zidane failing to call on him for what could have been a farewell appearance at the Bernabeu in the 2-0 loss to Real Betis.

Eder Militao will arrive in a €50million deal from Porto, providing competition for Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

While Rodrygo arrives from Santos for €45million, representing the future alongside compatriot Vinicius Jr.
