He may have won the Ballon d'Or for the third time in January and has already scored 37 goals this season, but an astonishing 32 per cent of Real Madrid fans want Cristiano Ronaldo dropped from the starting line-up.

But there's worse news for Gareth Bale - 46.1 per cent think the £86m Welshman should be cut.

The poll was conducted by Spanish newspaper AS, and also showed that 92.1 per cent of Real fans want Carlo Ancelotti to change his formation from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2.

Real have slipped down to second place in La Liga, after two games without a win. They lost 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao at the weekend.

Ancelotti, however, backed his attacking triumvirate of Ronaldo, Bale and Karim Benzema after the Bilbao defeat.

"The front three didn't play well, but it is not just their fault," Ancelotti added.

"We need to attack as a team. It is quite confusing what we are doing when we are attacking at the moment."
