From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manuel Pellegrini insists Real Madrid will not give up their La Liga title fight following a crucial 2-1 victory over Almeria on Thursday evening.

Real closed the gap on leaders Barcelona back to three points following goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael van der Vaart at the Estadio del Mediterraneo.

Los Merengues' title challenge has been written off following their 2-0 Clasico defeat to Barca on April 10 but Pellegrini claims his side will fight on until the end of the season.

"The team have recovered psychologically, especially after the defeat of last Saturday and we had a much more elaborate display," said the Chilean.

"The three points were very important. We must continue pressing Barca. We both have very difficult games as Almeria have shown.

"We will fight every Sunday to keep adding points and to pressure Barca.

"Next comes Valencia and it will be very difficult to win the game.

"Regarding my future, I repeat, I am not worried."
