'Murderers' banner hung from M602 ahead of Manchester United vs Liverpool match
Many of those driving to tonight's Europa League tie at Old Trafford will have seen the hand-made sign
A makeshift banner targeted at Liverpool fans with the word 'MURDERERS' written on it has been hung from a bridge over the M602.
The hand-made sign includes the date of the Hillsborough disaster, in which 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives, making it's inference clear. In smaller type, MUFC was also written on the sign.
The location of the banner in Salford means it will be seen by many Liverpool fans who drive to tonight's Europa League game at Old Trafford. The sides are meeting in the second-leg of their last-32 tie with Liverpool holding a 2-0 advantage from the first-leg.
James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo was among those who saw the sign. He tweeted: “Huge banner hung from the bridge at the end of the M602 reads ‘murderers’”
Others reacted on Twitter to the banner, with some branding it "despicable".
Tonight's match kicks off at 8.05pm.
