Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The defender has hit out at the struggling German club's supporters after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus last night.
The side were greeted by whistles from the home crowd at the Westfalenstadion at half-time, when the Serie A club went in 1-0 at the break.
Carlos Tevez's third-minute goal set Juventus on their way to a 3-0 goal triumph, winning 5-1 on aggregate to progress to the quarter-finals.
The 26-year-old, who is reportedly Louis van Gaal's No 1 sumer target for United, made a "calm down" gesture to the crowd as he walked down the tunnel at the break. He said after the match: "I did not think the whistles were okay. It would have been okay at the end but not at half-time."
The German World Cup-winner also had no complaints with the defeat.
"We had misunderstandings and lost every ball. Nothing worked any more" he said. "I have no idea why. We deserved to lose in the end, we were not on the same level as Juve.”
