Liverpool vs Manchester City, Champions League - as it happened
Re-live all the action from a memorable night at Anfield
From five to two, the Premier League participation was whittled down in the last 16, and will be halved again come semi-final time, as Liverpool and Manchester City come to a head.
Pep Guardiola’s juggernaut are the favourites for this year’s crown given their dominance but, much like how PSG wanted to avoid Real, City will have wanted to avoid Liverpool, the team whose strengths marry up to their weaknesses perfectly.
Guardiola branded the triumvirate of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino “almost unstoppable” but will hope the “almost” part of that assertion is more true than the “unstoppable” bit given that the weakest part of City’s game – if it can be called that – is their defence. Both sides seem to have their Premier League positions sewn up so expect a European classic, but don’t call a Liverpool victory a shock – this one really could go either way.

6' - Leroy Sane jinks past three Liverpool players in the box before his low cross is blocked behind for a corner.
David Silva takes it and finds Vincent Kompany but the City skipper's header is also blocked and Loris Karius claims the ball comfortably.
Liverpool are yet to really get going.
10' - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain capitalises on a misjudgement by Aymeric Laporte down the right wing and manages to deliver a decent cross in towards Roberto Firmino. Nicolas Otamendi reads the play well though and heads the ball clear.
GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Manchester City (Salah, 12)
Who else?!
Liverpool take the lead and it's Mo Salah with the goal as he bundles home from close range after a rapid Reds counter-attack.
Kyle Walker had a good chance to clear the ball in the build-up but he was harried off it by Roberto Firmino, who then provided the assist for Salah's tap-in.
14' - Chance for the equaliser!
Leroy Sane leads a swift City counter-attack as he drives with the ball from the half-way line to the edge of the Liverpool area. However, despite having Kevin De Bruyne in support, the German winger opts to go it alone and drags his shot wide of Loris Karius' far post.
Extremely wasteful.
Here's that Mo Salah opening goal in video form, which, let's face it, is much better than a bunch of words:
GOAL! Liverpool 2-0 Manchester City (Oxlade-Chamberlain, 20)
Stunner, absolute stunner.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain picks the ball up 25 yards from goal before drilling an absolute rocket past Ederson and into the corner of the net.
No goalkeeper in the world is stopping that.
24' - Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson delivers a superb cross in towards Roberto Firmino from the left wing but Ederson bravely dives out in front of his fellow Brazilian to punch the ball clear.
Really brave goalkeeping, that.
27' - City started this first half really brightly but they've been on the back foot since Mo Salah's opening goal.
Liverpool are playing with such high intensity and the visitors, who are used to being the team that dictates the tempo of most matches, don't know how to react.
GOAL! Liverpool 3-0 Manchester City (Mane, 31)
This is all a bit ridiculous, isn't it?
Mo Salah's initial shot is blocked by Vincent Kompany but the ball rebounds back to him and this time he opts to cross rather than shoot, and Sadio Mane is on hand at the far post to head home from just outside the six-yard box.
35' - Andy Robertson drives down the left wing, dribbling the entire length of City's half before getting a shot away. Fernandinho stays tight to him though and gets a crucial block in.
Liverpool are running riot.
