Manchester United will make a €40m (£29m) offer for Bayer Leverkusen's attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports.

German newspaper Bild have reported that Manchester United have scouted the Turkey international for months, and are preparing to make an offer for the player in January.

The 21-year-old has scored three goals and made three assists in all competitons this season.

Calhanoglu moved to Leverkusen for €14.5m back in July 2014, and has been an everpresent for the team. He has played in all 10 of their Bundesliga games this season alone.

Only this week, United manager Louis van Gaal confirmed that he wants more additons in January, despite spending £110m on new players in the summer.

"I have already said, in the transfer period, I could not buy every player I want and that’s also because of the market.

"I have said that we need creative, speedy players in attack. You have seen which players I have bought; I like that profile, but we need more.

"I think that all the players I want do want to come. It is not a question of the players, it is a question of the clubs who are stopping them."
