The defender, who moved to club from Sevilla in 2008, turned up at the Nou Camp in a red dinner jacket and black short, complemented with loafers, sunglasses and a bowtie.
The outfit did not seem to embarrass his club who proudly tweeted an image of Alves' arrival from their official account.
This is not the first instance of Barcelona's players being spotted sporting some dodgy clobber.
Earlier on in this season's Champions League, before the club's group stage clash with Paris Saint-Germain, Gerard Pique was pictured wearing what looked like chain mail.
The grey and woolly hooded jumper had an air of King Arthur about it and predictably set social media ablaze with memes.
Further calls had to be made to the fashion police following the Blaugrana's 2-1 home win over Real Madrid in El Clasico, when forward Neymar posted an image of himself alongside Lionel Messi and fellow Brazilian teammates Alves, Rafinha, Douglas and Adriano.
Each of the players' chosen get-ups was quite garish but, conversely, it was the understated Messi who stole everyone's attention with a black jumper, white shirt and grey trouser combination reminiscent of a substitute geography teacher.
However, none of the outfits witnessed previously this season can quite top the flamboyance of Alves' latest matador-inspired number.
However, the Brazilian's fashion sense may not be for much longer, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and talks on a new deal stalling.
