Brentford vs Chelsea LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction tonight
The Blues consolidated their place at the top of the table as the high-flying Bees came close to pulling off another shock
Chelsea held off a late onslaught from Brentford to achieve a narrow away victory on Saturday and consolidate their place at the top of the Premier League table.
Thomas Tuchel’s side had emerged as early frontrunners for the title, with confidence clearly flowing after their Champions League triumph in the spring, but they recently suffered back-to-back defeats against top teams in Man City and Juventus to somewhat lose momentum. The Blues have now responded with two straight wins, however, this victory over a spirited Brentford outfit earning Chelsea three invaluable points.
Left-back Ben Chilwell, making just his second league start of the season, fired the visitors ahead on the cusp of half-time, blasting a superb half-volley past David Raya for his third goal in as many games for club and country. Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was equally important here, however, making a string of superb saves late in the game to help his side survive the swarming Bees. The best of the lot was a stop with his face to deny Pontus Jansson, though the Senegal international then also crucially tipped over a Christian Norgaard overhead kick from close range to secure the win.
Follow all the fallout from the top-flight meeting:
Thomas Tuchel unhappy after losing Chelsea duo after international break
Thomas Tuchel has admitted Premier League managers have little choice but to accept losing top players for pivotal matches due to international commitments.
Thiago Silva will miss Saturday’s trip to Brentford due to his Brazil duties, with the experienced centre-back not even expected back in England until 24 hours before the match.
Antonio Rudiger has returned from Germany action with a back injury and will miss the Bees clash, though Romelu Lukaku is fit to feature after muscle soreness cut short his time with Belgium.

Leicester 4 - 2 Man Utd
Reaction from Leicester’s Jamie Vardy who said:
It was massively important. The most important thing was the performance because we had let our standards slip but we had the international break to reflect on things.
“We let him [Mason Greenwood] come inside way to easy onto his favoured foot and he put it right into the top corner. There were no complaints but I think you saw the reaction of the lads.
“We put a three in midfield and it gives him [Youri Tielemans] a bit more freedom [to get forward].
“It is brilliant for him [Patson Daka]. He has been working so hard in training. I am over the moon for him and I’m sure there are plenty more to come from Patson. Hopefully that will start pushing us forward in the table.”

Brentford have not beaten Chelsea since a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge in February 1939.
