Barcelona vs Bayern Munich LIVE: Champions League latest score, goals and updates from fixture tonight
The clash of the week in Europe as two heavyweights meet
Barcelona host Bayern Munich in the first huge group stage clash of this season’s Champions League, a meeting of two clubs who have won 11 European Cups between them. The Spanish giants last won in 2015, but it’s barely over a year since their Bavarian opponents were celebrating being crowned kings of the Continent in Lisbon. Earlier on in that run to glory, Bayern smashed Barca 8-2 in one of the most memorable - and humiliating for the Catalans - games in the competition in recent times.
Domestically, Barcelona have made a fine start to the new season despite the departures of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, winning two and drawing one, but their weekend match with Sevilla was postponed so they have not played since before the international break. Bayern are already flying in the Bundesliga, two points off the top and unbeaten after four games - they’ll head into this match as favourites despite playing away from home.
Julian Nagelsmann faces his biggest test so far as the new boss, however, and Ronaldo Koeman will doubtless have a tactical plan to try and cope with the German side’s array of attacking options. Follow all the live updates as Barcelona host Bayern Munich in the Champions League below:
Champions League: Barcelona 0-2 Bayern Munich
70 min: Muller put in a good cross but it finds Barca instead of his intended teammate.
Barca then countered and Coutinho got a shot away. The ball curled round and wide of the goal but the intent is what the hosts need to fire up their performance.
They have had more possession in recent minutes but nothing too threatening.
More changes rang in as Bayern made another as Musiala came off for Gnabry - showing the strength in depth the German side have, unlike their opponents this evening.
Champions League: Barcelona 0-2 Bayern Munich
65 min: Barca string an attack together as Pedri makes a great run but they lose the ball just outside the box to launch Bayern upfield.
Lewandowski’s pass is intercepted by Barca and they attempt to build from deep.
It’s actually quite sad to see Barca struggling this much in a match that a few years ago could have gone either way. At the moment it doesn’t even seem they are going to score at all.
Bayern make their first change as Pavard is off for Hernandez.
And Barca make more changes as Garcia and L De Jong are off for Mingueza and Coutinho.
Champions League: Barcelona 0-2 Bayern Munich
60 min: Busquets is replaced by Gavi, making his Champions League debut. The captaincy armband is handed to Pique.
The hosts make a second change as Roberto comes off for Demir.
The changes haven’t made an immediate impact as Bayern continue to dominate and the question seems to be how many will they score?
Musiala almost gets in after Muller feeds him the ball, just too much on it for the star to get there.
GOAL! Barcelona 0-2 Bayern Munich
55 min: Who else would it be?
Lewandowski scores off the rebound as Musiala’s shot hits the woodwork. The second goal sees the visitor’s second half dominance coming into fruition.
The strike is the 18th game in a row that Lewandowski has scored for the German club. He is without a doubt Bayern’s leading man and he could score a few more in this one.
Barca are just falling asleep in this second half after remaining in it in the first 45.
Champions League: Barcelona 0-1 Bayern Munich
54 min: Lewandowski made a great run but his teammates didn’t read the play. Bayern did manage to get into the box from the possession though.
Sane got a shot away and it takes a great save from Ter Stegen to stop the visitors doubling their lead.
Bayern have found their feet as Muller gets into the box again but he couldn’t quite get a shot away.
Barca are fading here and they have to do something soon to get back into this one.
Champions League: Barcelona 0-1 Bayern Munich
50 min: Sloppy in the midfield from Barca as a Busquets pass hasn’t got enough on it to reach his teammate.
Pedri then drew a foul, a contentious one as there wasn’t much in it, but it sent Bayern on the attack.
Muller tried to get a shot off but Pique blocked, another good action from the Spaniard, and it dulled the attack.
Barca then managed to put an attack together with Busquets having the best chance of the game for the hosts but it was pushed behind to earn a corner. The set-piece is easily cleared by the visitors.
Champions League: Barcelona 0-1 Bayern Munich
We are back underway in this clash at Camp Nou.
The main questions for this second half are: Can Barcelona’s defence continue their high tempo? And can the hosts get back into this one before Bayern run away with it?
A fun fact for you as we get back to action: Muller has scored more goals against Barcelona in the Champions League than any other player as that first half strike his seventh against the Spanish side.
He could score another in this second 45!
Half-time: Barcelona 0-1 Bayern Munich
The story of this first half definitely isn’t told in the score line as the hosts have been dominant.
Bayern have had their chances, with Muller capitalising on his to put the German side ahead, but they could have had more goals if their final touches came off.
While Barca’s attack has not been much better, they have had the lions share of possession and their defence - particularly through Pique - has been solid (aside from Garcia’s deflection in the build-up to the goal).
The hosts are clinging on in this match but they will have to keep up this defensive pressure if they want to remain in it for the next 45.
Champions League: Barcelona 0-1 Bayern Munich
38 min: You have to feel for the hosts, especially for Pique who has worked tirelessly to keep that goal from coming.
But Bayern have slowed built into this match with chances coming.
Barca are now on the attack and will look to make Camp Nou erupt with the crowd at the moment somewhat subdued.
L. De Jong passed the ball into the box to try and find F. De Jong but the cross was too high. The hosts still very much in this.
GOAL! Barcelona 0-1 Bayern Munich
34 min: Muller is in, in what is an easy shot at goal! He has a punt, just outside the box, and Eric Garcia accidentally deflects the shot into the goal.
It’s had been almost comical how messy Bayern’s box had become. Sane, Lewandowski and others attempting to get a shot away l but it was met with a Barca wall of defence. The offside flag was then raised to thwart the chances.
The flag continued to plague the visitors with Lewandowski forcing a schoolboy error in the final third to be ruled offside.
German legend Muller then silenced all of Barca’s good work with the easy goal.
