Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Aberdeen moved above Celtic to go into second place in the Bell's Premier Division thanks to two late goals against Hearts at Tynecastle Park last night.

Duncan Shearer turned the game when he equalised in the 75th minute, just a minute after coming on for the injured Billy Dodds. It was all the encouragement Aberdeen needed and three minutes later Dean Windass headed what proved to be the winning goal in a 2-1 win, when he was left unmarked in the penalty area to finish off a superb cross from Joe Miller.

Until then the match had looked to be drifting away from an Aberdeen side who had played fluently enough but had failed to find a way past a well-organised Hearts defence. The home side started on top and took the lead after only seven minutes with a fine goal. Stephane Paille played the ball through to Colin Cameron, who controlled it before flicking the ball into the roof of the net.

In last night's other Premier Division games, Danny Lennon scored in the last minute to give Raith Rovers a 1-0 win at Motherwell while Dunfermline beat Hibernian 2-1 thanks to another late goal, from Craig Ireland.
