Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Leonardo opened the scoring at San Siro and Andriy Shevchenko doubled the advantage soon after. Although the winger Umit Davala responded for Galatasaray, the Turkish outfit could not find an equaliser and, along with Chelsea, have just one point to show for their two games so far.
In Group G, Bordeaux won an exciting game against the Dutch side Willem II. The French champions were two goals up after Raymond Victoria's own goal after 17 minutes and Lilian Laslandes' effort five minutes later. But Yassine Abdellaoui and Ousmane Sanou drew the Dutchmen level. The substitute Pascal Feindouno then scored Bordeaux's winner.
In the same group Spartak Moscow drew with Sparta Prague, Artyom Bezrodny's 73rd-minute effort cancelling out Vratislav Lokvenc's 17th-minute opener for Sparta.
Valencia, opening-day conquerors of Rangers in Group F, were pegged back at PSV Eindhoven. Argentina's Claudio Lopez gave the Spaniards the lead, but Ruud Van Nistelrooij's penalty earned a draw.
In Group E, there were wins for Real Madrid and Porto, Januario Esquerdinho and Mario Jardel bringing the Portuguese victory over Olympiakos.
John Toshack's Real side were even more impressive, cruising to a 4-1 victory over the Norwegian side, Molde.
