Arsenal v Coventry City

Dixon has ankle injury so Keown stands by for Arsenal. Ogrizovic suspended so Gould Jnr plays in Coventry's goal while youngster Sheridan joins forwards Wegerle, Ndlovu, Harford, Quinn and John Williams in 14-man squad.

Aston Villa v QPR

Townsend makes Villa debut but Whittingham will be on bench. Froggatt and Daley compete for the left-midfield role. Spink is in goal. Rangers keep new boy Sinclair in reserve and are without Bardsley, McDonald and Maddix, so Witter makes debut.

Chelsea v Blackburn Rovers

Kharin fit to challenge Hitchcock for Chelsea goalkeeper's shirt. New signing Morrison competes with former Plymouth team-mate Marker to replace injured Hendry in Rovers defence. Newell (knee) and Le Saux (ankle) given all- clear.

Liverpool v Sheffield Wed

Barnes awaits test on thigh injury, Walters on standby for Liverpool. Wednesday's new central defenders, Walker and Pearce, make their debuts.

Manchester City v Leeds United

Injury problems for City: Quinn out while Curle, Ian Brightwell and Groenendijk all doubtful. Deane and O'Leary make debuts as Leeds seek first away League win for more than a year. With Sterland and Kerslake injured, Howard Wilkinson plugs the problem right-back spot with Republic of Ireland Under-21 striker Kelly.

Newcastle v Tottenham

Burridge, 41-year-old goalkeeper, is on Newcastle bench and new signing Allen fills in for injured Beardsley. Venison doubtful with back injury. Durie partners Sheringham in Tottenham's attack in Barmby's absence. Anderton and Allen (both ankle) and Edinburgh (cartilage) missing as Campbell deputises at left-back.

Oldham v Ipswich

Marshall seeks to impress against former club in his debut alongside Ipswich's other summer signing, Mason. Ipswich are without Johnson, Youds (both knee) and Goddard (ankle). Oldham striker Beckford is unfit but Redmond, who has missed training with a calf muscle injury, will play.

Sheffield Utd v Swindon Town

Swindon are without Hazard (Achilles) and Bodin (calf) but three new signings, Whitbread, Nijholt and Fjortoft, are in 15-man squad. United newcomers Tuttle and Falconer are included but Norwegian striker Flo waits for work permit. Gayle and Barnes are injured, and Hodges is suspended. Cowan, sent off in a pre-season friendly abroad, is free to play.

Southampton v Everton

Southampton are without goalkeeper Flowers - suspended after being sent off in a friendly. Andrews takes his place. They also lack Hurlock (knee) and Gray (ankle). For Everton, Barlow stands by for Rideout (groin).

West Ham v Wimbledon

Hammers lack four injured defenders (Webster, Martin, Foster and Brown) plus Bishop. For the Dons, Jones is doubtful (knee injury) while Blissett, new from Brentford, is ruled out with a thigh strain.
