Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Arsenal v Chelsea

Arsenal are set to make changes but the only definite non-starters are Winterburn, who badly sprained an ankle in the Cup-Winners' Cup victory over Paris St Germain on Tuesday and Merson (tonsillitis). Chelsea striker Cascarino misses the game because of a groin injury and Hopkin looks set to deputise.

Coventry City v Sheffield Wednesday

Midfielder Darby has recovered from flu and is expected to return to Coventry City's team, replacing Pickering. Sheffield Wednesday's England defender Walker has won his race for fitness and plays after recovering from severe leg bruising. Midfield Hyde is back in contention for a midfield place after being ommitted for the QPR game. England winger Waddle has finally been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Ipswich Town v Swindon Town

Ipswich's leading scorer Marshall is back after a five-game absence with a knee injury. Midfielder Milton, out since December with a series of injuries, is also included in a squad of 15. Striker Genchev is away on international duty with Bulgaria. Swindon's former England international Fenwick is likely to make his first appearance since March, while Nijholt is ruled out by suspension so Horlock, on the bench for the last two games, will deputise.

Liverpool v Newcastle United

Hutchison is hoping for a first-team recall after hitting a goal for Liverpool reserves in midweek. Wright has failed a fitness test so Nicol partners Ruddock in defence. Newcastle are boosted by the fitness of two key players, full-back Beresford and midfielder Bracewell.

Manchester City v Norwich City

Veteran midfielder McMahon (hamstring) is Manchester City's only worry. Goalkeeper Coton could be in contention to return after a four-week absence following a knee operation. Central defender Polston will return to Norwich City's defence after missing the last four games with a calf injury. But skipper Butterworth is still out with a troublesome groin injury.

Oldham Athletic v West Ham United

Oldham make one change with striker McCarthy returning to a 16-man squad after being cup-tied for the two FA Cup semi-finals. Burrows will replace broken leg victim Rowland. Striker Chapman, left out in recent weeks, is also included in the squad.

Queen's Park Rangers v Everton

Defenders Ablett and Snodin play their last matches for Everton before suspension. Striker Rideout is again missing so Angell partners Cottee in attack.

Sheffield United v Aston Villa

Sheffield United give goalkeeper Kelly, skipper Gayle, winger Carr and defender Bradshaw fitness tests. German forward Beinlich, who scored a hat-trick against the Blades in a midweek reserve match, and teenager Graham Fenton could form a new attacking partnership for Villa. Saunders is ruled out with a back injury and Dalian Atkinson needs a fitness test on a groin problem.

Southampton v Blackburn Rovers

Southampton will be without central defender Wood (calf strain) so Bound will take over. Winger Heaney, signed from Arsenal just before the deadline, is still missing with a thigh strain so Saints are likely to be unchanged. Blackburn are unchanged apart from Moran taking over at centre-half from Hendry, who serves a one match suspension.

Wimbledon v Manchester United

Wimbledon have Jones available for selection following his two-match ban. Manchester United wait for a fitness check on midfielder Keane (toe) before naming their team. If he is fit then United could be unchanged, which means a place for Robson, who will start his first League game since New Year's Day.

TOMORROW

Leeds United v Tottenham

Leeds defender Dorigo (Achilles tendon injury) is set to lose his ever-present record. Teenager Sharp stands by. Speed, Strachan and Deane are responding to treatment and are expected to play. Tottenham will be without suspended midfielder Samways.
