Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

West Bromwich Albion have been ordered by an FA tribunal to pay Grimsby pounds 600,000 for the 30-year-old out-of-contract midfielder, Paul Groves, who moved to The Hawthorns in June.

Neil Redfearn, the Barnsley captain, has signed a two-year extension to his contract. The club also confirmed they have agreed a pounds 250,000 deal for Matty Appleby, the Darlington defender. Johan de Kock, the 31-year- old Dutch international defender, has moved from Roda JC Kerkrade to the German club Schalke '04.

Accrington Stanley hope a pre-season friendly against Liverpool on 29 July will help them to regain League status. The Unibond League team will use the proceeds of the match to upgrade their ground to GM Vauxhall Conference standard.

Romario, the 30-year-old Flamengo forward who stands to make pounds 6m over three years by moving to Spain's Valencia, will say goodbye to Rio de Janeiro in a special farewell game at the Maracana stadium on 3 August.
