In the play-off to decide third place Spain beat Portugal 2-1. Leading through a bicycle-kick by Jose Galvez after 11 minutes, the Spaniards were pegged back when Nuno Luis curled a 20-yard free-kick over the defensive wall but captain Daniel Garcia restored their lead a minute before half-time, coolly side-footing home after Medina's low cross fell to him in a crowded box.
