Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Scotland Schools Under-15. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .2

THE 97th Under-15 schoolboys' international between England and Scotland kicked off five minutes late and effectively ended 10 minutes early when Scotland's influential captain, Christopher Pollock, coolly struck a penalty beyond James Dungey. The penalty decision was dubious but it gave Scotland the advantage their attacking initiative had earned.

The Scots smothered the potential flair of England's wide midfield players and it was only adventurous running and a deft pass from full- back David Hilton which prised open the Scottish back line to present Jamie Cassidy with England's goal in the 17th minute.

Just after half-time Paul McShane's low drive was beaten out by Dungey only for Andrew O'Brien to sidefoot the simplest of equalisers.

Ian Harty was bundled over for the winning penalty and, at the end, Scottish celebrations may have been excessive but Scottish wins at Wembley are rare and, if you are 15 years old, very special.
