From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

CHELSEA'S Franck Leboeuf suffered a shin injury playing for France in their 1-0 defeat by Russia in Moscow yesterday, and is doubtful for the Coca-Cola Cup final against Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Russia's winner came thanks to a blunder by the French goalkeeper Lionel Letizi. Sergei Yuran pounced on Letizi's mistake to score after just two minutes. Letizi, playing in only his second international, failed to control a Leboeuf's simple back-pass and the former Millwall man dispossessed him and slotted home.

Manchester United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earned Norway a 2-2 draw against Belgium in Brussels with a goal 20 minutes from time. Barnsley's Georgi Hristov scored the only goal as Macedonia recorded a surprise 1-0 win over the World Cup finalists Bulgaria in Skopje.

Two goals in the first five minutes of his debut from Real Madrid's 20- year-old striker Fernando Morientes helped Spain crush Sweden 4-0 in Vigo.
