From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In good form in Serie A lately, Internazionale, can beat Lazio in the Uefa Cup final in Paris on Wednesday. Lazio, after looking live Serie A title contenders earlier in the season, have faded into fifth place, well behind Internazionale, in recent weeks. Moreover, the Rome side failed to impress when going down 1-0 to the moderate Lecce on Saturday.
Internazionale are heavily dependent on Ronaldo but, even so, if the brilliant Brazilian gets anything like a decent service from his team- mates, it is odds-on the great man will cut though Lazio's well- organised defence with the same devastating style that he has done in Serie A all season.
Leeds United, who have a creditable 44 per cent strike rate away from home this season, are good value to beat Manchester United in their Premiership game at Old Trafford tonight. United, whose strike rate at the Theatre Of Dreams this season is a frankly disappointing 66 per cent, will find Leeds - still chasing a Uefa Cup place - an entirely different proposition to last week's Selhurst Park victims Crystal Palace, who, after again playing well for the first half-hour, went on to give another exhibition of haplessness when going down 5-2 at Bolton on Saturday.
West Ham, who have a 66 per cent strike rate at Upton Park this term, did their Uefa Cup prospects no good when losing 5-0 to Liverpool on Saturday, but will be up for it against Palace tomorrow.
Liverpool, after hammering the Hammers, can beat Arsenal at Anfield on Wednesday. The Reds need to win that game to ensure their Uefa Cup place.
