1996 (Aug) Quits Blackburn by mutual consent.

1996 (Dec) Appointed as scout at Rangers.

1997 (Jan) Appointed as Kevin Keegan's successor as manager at Newcastle.

1998 Aug: sacked as Newcastle manager.
