Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy and the Ipswich wing-back Kieron Dyer have been awarded their first England Under-21 caps for tonight's European Under-21 Championship qualifier with Moldova at Wycombe.

Murphy is set to play behind the only orthodox striker in the side, Crystal Palace's Bruce Dyer. The 18-year-old Kieron Dyer will be expected to get forward down the right flank and supply the ammunition for his namesake, who was recalled to the squad because of injuries to two strikers, James Scowcroft and Darren Eadie.

Aston Villa's Riccardo Scimeca will captain the side for the second time in the absence of the injured Ben Thatcher and will be part of a three-man defence also containing Chelsea's fit-again Michael Duberry and Coventry's Marcus Hall.

ENGLAND UNDER-21 (v Moldova, Wycombe, tonight): Wright (Ipswich); Duberry (Chelsea), Scimeca (Aston Villa, capt), Hall (Coventry); Granville (Chelsea), Bowyer (Leeds), Hughes (Arsenal), Quashie (Queen's Park Rangers); Murphy (Liverpool), K Dyer (Ipswich); B Dyer (Crystal Palace).
