Darts: George whitewashed, Part satisfied

Bobby George's dream of winning the World Professional Championship was destroyed at Frimley Green, in Surrey, yesterday when the 48-year-old Londoner was whitewashed 6-0 in the final by John Part. The Canadian, playing in his first world event, pocketed a pounds 32,000 cheque as he became the first overseas player to take the title. It was the fourth whitewash in the final since the event began in 1978 and Part, 27, was never troubled after taking a nervous first set three legs to two. George, who had had treatment for an injured back, said: 'Let's face it, he slaughtered me.'
